A large outdoor sculpture of concrete, glass and copper, with breathing glass vessels, shown in The Regent’s Park for Frieze Sculpture.
Metanoia reimagines Bogdan Bogdanović’s Flower Monument at Jasenovac, one of the Yugoslav Spomenik war memorials, as a kind of breathing machine. Concrete lotus-like petals rise around a copper heart that opens onto a glass core filled with dust, while suspended glass vessels inhale and exhale through race-car exhaust pipes.
The work draws on Bašić’s childhood during Yugoslavia’s collapse. It was first shown at the 14th Taipei Biennial and comes to Frieze Sculpture, curated by Fatoş Üstek, ahead of two institutional solo shows.
