New layered-pigment paintings by Amy Lincoln alongside Craig Kauffman’s vacuum-formed plastic wall sculptures from 1968–1969.
Lincoln builds thin, successive layers of saturated pigment across ordered divisions of the panel, producing gradual tonal shifts and a glow that seems to come from within the flat surface. Kauffman’s biomorphic bubble reliefs, vacuum-formed in plastic and often lacquered on the interior, push outward from the wall and hold color beneath their translucent skins.
The pairing looks at how each artist treats the surface as a site where color, light and perception meet. Kauffman was on the original Ferus Gallery roster in the 1960s; Lincoln is represented by the gallery.
