Papyrus scrolls and inscribed linen mummy wrappings from the Getty’s own collection, written with spells to see the dead safely into the afterlife.

Back on view after a first showing in 2023, the display draws on the burials of eight people. Four papyri, made for Webennesre, Ankhesenaset, Aset and Pasherashakhet, span about 1450 to 100 BCE; three linen strips come from the wrappings of two men both named Petosiris; a ushabti figurine and part of a coffin lid complete it.

Sara E. Cole curates; texts are in English and Spanish.
