Luisa Rabbia‘Containing the Container’
Paintings and silverpoint drawings by the New York-based Luisa Rabbia of many-bodied female figures, drawn from Neolithic ideas of the body as a vessel.
Rabbia’s first solo show in Germany pairs large oils on linen with small drawings in silverpoint, colored pencil and watercolor, built up from fingerprints, veins and cell-like lines. In the title painting, female torsos multiply down the canvas into a landscape that ends in several feet.
Artemis (2023–24), after the many-breasted goddess of Ephesus, is the centerpiece; the Transformers series shows figures made of many bodies, and in Offering two real dried white roses are set into the canvas.
