Photographs, performance documentation and paintings by four artists who use staged action, humour and absurdity to question power.

The show begins with KwieKulik’s The Banana and the Pomegranate (1978), ten photographs of a performance made in communist Poland, and moves to Katarzyna Kozyra’s Lou Salomé, a staged scene in a Vienna garden that reverses roles of gender and power. Janne Lehtinen’s Phantoms shows a suited figure, the artist, appearing and vanishing before the camera.

Paweł Książek’s ongoing painting series N.N. vs. Artists reworks anonymous internet images of risky youth behaviour, asking where performance ends and spectacle begins. Together the works treat humour and the nonsensical as tools of resistance.
