The Crown of Kerch: Treasures from the Dawn of European History

Neues Museum

Oct 19, 2017 – Sep 22, 2027 Mitte

Migration-period gold jewelry and early medieval brooches and belts from the Diergardt collection, on loan from Cologne’s Römisch-Germanisches Museum.

The centerpiece is a garnet-inlaid diadem from a tomb at Kerch in Crimea, from the late 4th or early 5th century. Gold jewelry from the Black Sea region and silver brooches and belts from early medieval graves in France, Italy, Spain and Germany come from the collection of Johannes von Diergardt, shown in Berlin until 1934 and back in the city while the Cologne museum is rebuilt.
