Liebermann-Villa am Wannsee

Oct 3, 2026 – Jan 18, 2027

Drawings, prints, book illustrations and paintings tracing Max Slevogt’s nearly thirty-year collaboration with the publisher Bruno Cassirer.

The show follows the partnership between the painter and illustrator Max Slevogt and the publisher Bruno Cassirer, who gave him artistic freedom and encouraged his inventive approach to illustrated books. Their shared love of drawing led to works now seen as milestones of book illustration.

Sketch sheets, ink drawings, etchings and paintings by Slevogt appear alongside a wood engraving after Max Liebermann. Cassirer’s journal Kunst und Künstler, which shaped the art debate of its day, is part of the story.
