The largest museum survey yet of the East German artist Gabriele Stötzer, whose own body is central to five decades of feminist work.
Around 150 works cover painting, writing, photography, textiles, Super 8 film, performance and public actions. Jailed for a year by the GDR after organizing a petition in 1976, Stötzer went on to work in the literary and artistic underground and co-founded the women’s collective Künstlerinnengruppe Erfurt.
Curated by Julia Grosse with Christopher Wierling. The show travels to Museum Abteiberg in Mönchengladbach in 2027.
