Rhys HimsworthMenhir
CNC-milled panels and a few sculptures made from shredded electronic waste set in resin, carved with patterns drawn from marble and slate.
Himsworth shreds circuit boards, LCD screens and hard drives, binds them with resin into dense blocks, and carves them with three-, five- and six-axis CNC machines. The cutting works like excavation, exposing stratified layers of waste much as weathering exposes rock.
Surface patterns come from veining in metamorphic stones such as marble and slate. The panels read first as Modernist monochromes, while the sculptures recall Land Art. The title refers to Neolithic standing stones, and the works are framed as speculative monoliths.
