### David Driskell: *Wake Up Everybody*

Oct 2 – Dec 19, 2026 · on view · Jenkins Johnson Gallery

Paintings, collage, works on paper and prints made by David Driskell between 1960 and the early 2000s.

The show samples Driskell’s wide-ranging practice, from figuration and abstraction to Christian devotional art, African craft traditions, landscapes and jazz musicians. Prints include linocuts, woodcuts and serigraphs, shown with paintings, collage and assemblage.

The works draw on his Southern upbringing, his travels in Africa and his ties to Maine. The title comes from the 1975 Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes song, honoring Driskell as a teacher and mentor to generations of African American artists.

### *Unfinished Lines*

Group exhibition · Sep 24 – Oct 24, 2026 · on view · Art of Contemporary Africa

Papytsho Mafolo, Hussein Salim, Pascal Konan and Aza Mansongi

Mixed-media and acrylic paintings by four African artists, each treating the drawn line as something left open.

Four painters from across the African continent each take a different approach to the line: abandoning it mid-stroke, burying it under layers, bleaching it from indigo denim, or looping it with no exit. Their paths run from Kinshasa via Brussels, Khartoum via KwaZulu-Natal, Abidjan, and Kinshasa via Douala.

The show takes part in Nexus: SF/Bay Area Black Art Week.

### *BLACK INTERIORS: Celebrating 5 Years of Black (Space) Residency*

Group exhibition · Sep 19 – Oct 31, 2026 · on view · Atrium

Black (Space) Residency alumni

A retrospective of visual, material and literary work by alumni of Black (Space) Residency, marking its fifth anniversary.

Black (Space) Residency, based in the Minnesota Street Project Studios, was founded as a response to the displacement and inequity facing Black creatives in the Bay Area. It gives fellows time, safety and rest without requiring finished outputs or commercial deliverables.

Co-curated by Erica Deeman and Trina Michelle Robinson, the show looks back over five years of work by residency alumni across visual art, material practice and writing.

### Raymond Meeks: *Assemblage*

Sep 19 – Nov 14, 2026 · on view · Casemore Gallery

Recent photographs of abandoned welding and wood shops near Kingston, New York, with sculptures the artist assembled from the debris.

Over eighteen months Meeks photographed ruined work buildings at a site in the hamlet of Cranesville, on the outskirts of Kingston, New York. Among the leftover tools and scrap he built provisional sculptures and compositions, temporary assemblages made for the camera.

The pictures give the discarded everyday objects a second life and a fresh look.

### Megan Broughton: *False Horizon*

Sep 12 – Oct 31, 2026 · on view · The San Francisco Arts Education Project

Copper plate etchings of forms resembling floating ice, made after a residency on a sailboat between Greenland and Iceland.

The title refers to a mirage, an optical illusion in which temperature inversions bend light and create a false boundary near the true horizon. Broughton draws on her time at the MaréMotrice residency aboard a sailboat in the waters between Greenland and Iceland.

Her copper plate etching process moves between control and chance, layering variations of forms that recall ice floating on water. Like a submerged iceberg, the work asks viewers to imagine what lies beneath the surface.

### Isadora Gullov-Singh: *Traces We Hold*

Sep 12 – Oct 31, 2026 · on view · re.riddle

New paintings in acrylic and pastel on raw linen, drawn from the artist’s memories of her father and childhood in Rome.

Gullov-Singh’s paintings circle memories shared with her father in Italy, including climbing Bernini’s Fountain of the Four Rivers in Piazza Navona and waiting at Caffè della Pace while he played chess. Each is treated as a trace: a lingering sensation of heat, shadow or nearness.

She layers acrylic washes on unprimed linen, then rubs pastel into long freehand lines, letting the pigment fall away where the weave holds it. This is her debut solo exhibition at re.riddle.

### Blaise Rosenthal: *A Far Country*

Sep 12 – Oct 31, 2026 · on view · Municipal Bonds

Large multi-canvas abstract Monoliths shown alongside small, layered Overpaintings, both drawn from landscape and memory.

Rosenthal pairs two contrasting series. The Monoliths join two or three abutting canvases into single asymmetrical, geology-like compositions, while the small Overpaintings, rarely exhibited, are built up in layers over years and lean on color.

Both draw on the mountains of Northern California that shaped the artist’s visual memory. This is his second solo show with the gallery.

### *Rex Ray*

Sep 12 – Oct 31, 2026 · on view · Themes + Projects

A survey of Rex Ray’s collages, resin panels and pigment prints made between 2000 and 2014.

The show looks at the late work of the Bay Area artist, who died in 2015, through cut-and-pasted paper collages on canvas and wood panel, resin-coated panels and pigment prints. It stresses his bold color pairings and layered textures and forms, drawn from both fine art and graphic design.

Themes+Projects first showed Ray in 2002, in its Palo Alto years. The exhibition, with Gallery 16, coincides with his retrospective at the Monterey Museum of Art and a second edition of his book We Are All Light.

New abstract and landscape paintings inspired by the fading western sky over Los Angeles and the city’s skyline.

Each of twenty family members is represented by a life cast mask of their face and by a favorite work by Asawa, accompanied by their own written account of why they chose it.
