# Charlotte Evans: *I SING TO THE BIRDS WHO SANG FOR US*

Dates not published · on view

New oil and gouache paintings of birds and gardens, made around migration, nostalgia and home.

Evans, a Londoner now living in Toronto, takes her starting point from the sparrows and starlings outside her windows. Both species were brought to North America by nineteenth-century acclimatisation societies, and she uses them to think about colonialism, migration and the Welsh idea of hiraeth, a longing for home.

The works are oil, oil stick and gouache paintings on canvas, panel and paper, made in 2026 with a few begun in 2024.
