A working papermaking and boatbuilding workshop in the galleries, with a speculative Temporary Office of Bay Relations.
Futurefarmers and curator Devon Bella turn the museum into a provisional workshop where artists, scientists, students and neighbors make paper from plant matter, recycled fiber and water. The sheets feed Floating Forest, Marisha Farnsworth and Amy Franceschini’s work in progress for a fleet of wood and paper vessels to sail the Bay.
A Temporary Office of Bay Relations sits alongside, and the opening marks the release of a field guide to the San Joaquin River. The project is part of Becoming Estuarine and moves on to Oakland afterward.
