Christopher BurchEchoes of Absence and Mythos: The Un-Archivists of Shitocracy
From Oct 17, 2026 Mission
Painted figures, immersive drawings, sculptures and writings drawing on Black folklore and the erasure of Black history.
Burch imagines a secret society of people overlooked by history, the Un-Archivists, and uses a trickster’s humor to question how Black narratives are told and erased. Canvases show uncanny figures with feathers or moth wings in place of hair, alongside drawings, sculptures and texts that form a library of Afro Surrealism.
The work was developed through research in the Internet Archive’s collections, during his residency there.
