Tallulah DirnfeldWherever I Am I Am What Is Missing
New paintings of bodies, beds, clothing, fruit and ornate interiors, in which abundant scenes carry a sense of absence.
The title comes from Mark Strand’s poem “Keeping Things Whole”. Dirnfeld paints figures who turn away, hide their faces or sink into fabric, and at times replace the figure with a garment or still life that serves as a trace of a person.
Satin holding the pressure of a body, fruit at the point of ripeness and palazzo interiors recur, painted with a flash-like immediacy. The works leave open what exactly is missing.
