Pietro da Cortona, Carlo Dolci, Guercino and others

### *Diego Rivera e la costruzione dell’arte moderna in Messico nel XX secolo*

Jun 9 – Dec 13, 2026 · on view · Villa Caffarelli

Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, Orozco, Siqueiros, Velasco

More than 140 works, 30 by Rivera, tracing how Mexican artists built a modern national art, from the academy to muralism and beyond.

Rivera’s work hangs with that of Frida Kahlo, José María Velasco, Orozco, Siqueiros, María Izquierdo, Tamayo, Dr. Atl, Saturnino Herrán and others, with Tina Modotti’s photographs of Rivera. Four sections follow his academic training, his European years in dialogue with Cubism, the cultural renaissance after the Revolution, and the paths Mexican art took beyond social realism.

Made with the Museo Kaluz in Mexico City; curated by Miguel Fernández Félix and Alberto González Torres.

### *Il non finito: fra poetica e tecnica esecutiva*

Group exhibition · Jan 15, 2026 – Jan 4, 2027 · on view · Pinacoteca

Guido Reni, Jacopo Palma il Vecchio, Garofalo and others

Unfinished paintings in the Pinacoteca Capitolina, shown with digital frames revealing their underdrawings and changes found by scientific imaging.

Paintings left incomplete by Garofalo, Palma il Vecchio and Guido Reni are examined with infrared reflectography, digital radiography, UV fluorescence and MA-XRF. Digital frames beside the works let visitors page through the underdrawings and the artists’ changes, such as Reni’s Anima beata, with its altered legs and wings, and Palma’s Christ and the Adulteress.

Reni’s room also offers macro photographs and a 3D version of the Anima beata for visitors with low vision. The show comes from the EAR research project of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma, curated by Costanza Barbieri and Claudio Seccaroni, with a catalogue from Artemide. Originally due to close in April 2026, it was extended.

### *Il Colosso di Costantino*

Jan 1 – Dec 31, 2026 · on view · Villa Caffarelli

A full-scale, 13-metre reconstruction of the colossal statue of Constantine, standing in the garden of Villa Caffarelli.

The statue was rebuilt from 3D scans of the surviving fourth-century marble fragments kept in the courtyard of Palazzo dei Conservatori: a head, arm, hand, knee, shin and feet. Factum Foundation made it in resin and polyurethane with marble dust, gold leaf and plaster, over an easily dismantled aluminium frame.

Shown as a seated Constantine in the guise of Jupiter, it stands on part of the site of the Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus. It was first presented in Milan in the show Recycling Beauty (2022–23) and has been at Villa Caffarelli since February 2024. Admission is free.

### *I Colori dell’Antico. Marmi Santarelli ai Musei Capitolini*

Apr 13, 2022 – Apr 30, 2032 · on view · Palazzo Clementino

Over 660 polychrome marble fragments and sample sets from imperial Rome, shown in two rooms beside the Medagliere.

Drawn from the Capitoline collection and the Santarelli Foundation, which lent its pieces for ten years, the display traces how coloured stones reached Rome from across the empire. One room holds 82 fragments; the other two sets of marble samples, one of 422 pieces from the early 1800s and one of 288 tiles, plus a Dionysus head on a mixed-marble bust and stonecutters’ tools.

A looping documentary by Adriano Aymonino and Silvia Davoli follows the history of these materials, and the marbles are arranged to reflect the compass directions of their origin.
