## Exhibitions

### *Vitalità dell’architettura italiana 1946–2026*

May 29 – Nov 15, 2026 · on view · KME Gallery

Eighty years of Italian architecture since the Republic was founded, from postwar public building to eight studios of the “Erasmus generation” and younger designers.

Interviews with Renzo Piano, Massimiliano Fuksas, Stefano Boeri, Paola Viganò and others open the show, beside Matilde Cassani’s reworking of BBPR’s Milan monument to those who died in the Nazi camps. Archival material on the rebuilding of democratic Italy leads to eight studios born between the late 1960s and early 1980s, among them Labics, Francesca Torzo and Barozzi Veiga, each with a building photographed by Allegra Martin, and to this year’s NXT finalists. Curated by Pippo Ciorra and Elena Tinacci.

Hundreds of comic strips, drawings and writings by the cartoonist Andrea Pazienza, in order from his early years to his last works.

Marking 70 years since his birth, the second chapter of a project begun at MAXXI L’Aquila sets rooms of strips, with characters such as Pentothal, Zanardi and Pompeo, around a core of texts, illustrations and painted drawings. There a mural Pazienza made live at the Naples comics fair in 1987 is shown for the first time, with sketches, letters, poems, photographs, films and recordings. Curated by Giulia Ferracci and Oscar Glioti; extended to October 18.

### TAKK: *con-vivere*

Mar 20, 2026 – Feb 14, 2027 · on view · Entrance

Six movable installations of artificial and living elements fill the museum’s entrance hall, with plants, color and grow-light systems.

The second edition of ENTRATE, a multi-year design program that treats the MAXXI hall as a place to promote contemporary creativity, is given to the Barcelona and New York studio TAKK, founded by Mireia Luzárraga and Alejandro Muiño. Curated by Martina Muzi.

Six installations form a varied landscape of low-carbon materials and light structures. Rigid elements and curving forms sit alongside living plants, supported by lighting borrowed from agricultural greenhouses, while color serves as stimulus and therapy.

### Alberto Garutti: *Temporali*

Oct 7, 2023 – Nov 1, 2026 · on view

A large illuminated sign on the museum roof whose lights brighten whenever lightning strikes anywhere in Italy.

Garutti designed Temporali for the roof of the museum, along the façade facing Via Masaccio. The work is a big luminous text connected to lightning detection: its lights grow stronger each time a bolt hits Italian territory during a storm.

The artist dedicated it to passers-by who look up at the sky, and saw it as a work completed in its encounter with viewers, linking art to the elemental energy of nature.

May 29 – Oct 18, 2026 · on view, closing soon · Outside the museum

A large temporary pavilion of salvaged materials in the museum’s piazza, with a site-specific sound piece, used for rest, play and events.

Rubato, by the Ferrara group HPO, won the 2026 edition of NXT, the programme in which five young architecture studios are invited every two years to propose a temporary structure for the MAXXI piazza. Curated by Pippo Ciorra, it is a sizeable pavilion built from recovered materials, with a deliberate construction-site look.

Open and adaptable, it serves as a place to meet, relax and play, and as the setting for the museum’s summer events. Agnese Menguzzato contributed a site-specific sound piece.

Oct 9 – Nov 8, 2026 · on view, just opened

A history of six decades of WWF Italia’s campaigns, nature reserves and alliances that changed how Italy sees nature.

The show traces how WWF Italia helped turn ecology from a minority concern into a shared cultural value over sixty years. It begins with the organisation’s origins and the vision of its founder Fulco Pratesi, then moves through the first Oases and the major campaigns for species and habitats.

It also covers alliances with civil society and business. WWF’s work has created more than 100 Oases and protected over 30,000 hectares in Italy.
