## Exhibitions

### *La Collection : Revoir Picasso*

Mar 12, 2024 – Mar 12, 2027 · on view

The museum’s own Picasso collection, drawn from the artist’s studios, hung across three floors of the Hôtel Salé.

The largest public collection of Picasso’s work, the “Picasso de Picasso,” came to the French state from the artist’s own studios. Since March 2024 it has filled three floors of the Hôtel Salé in a hang that moves through his symbolist, cubist, classical, surrealist and political turns and looks at how his work has been received and argued over.

Smaller focus displays are set within the collection rooms.

### Guillermo Kuitca: *Chapelle*

Oct 15, 2024 – Dec 31, 2027 · on view · Chapel

A wall painting made on site by the Argentine artist Guillermo Kuitca in the chapel of the Hôtel Salé, in his angular “cubistoid” style.

Invited by the museum, Kuitca, born in Buenos Aires in 1961 and still based there, painted straight onto the chapel walls a web of crossing lines, like folds in a map, that turns the room into a new pictorial space. He has worked in this cubism-derived manner since his Argentine pavilion at the 2007 Venice Biennale.

He casts the piece as a meeting with Picasso, borrowing the image of art history as a baggage carousel from his earlier paintings.

### Kurt Schwitters: *Le chaos-monde 1918–1948*

Oct 6, 2026 – Feb 7, 2027 · on view

- Wed, Dec 9, 2026: Screening of films by Franciszka and Stefan Themerson, with commentary
- Thu, Jan 14, 2027: Evening of sound poetry with Jérôme Game and Michèle Métail
- Wed, Jan 27, 2027: Lecture by Alain Schnapp on ruins

A retrospective of more than 300 works and documents by Kurt Schwitters, his first in France since 1994, co-curated by a MoMA curator.

The show surveys the German artist’s work from 1918 to 1948 in paintings, sculptures, assemblages, collages, drawings, notebooks, photographs, books and archives. It covers his Merz art made from discarded scraps, the Merzbau he built inside his own house, the sound poem Ursonate, his magazine and his typographic advertising, and draws links with Picasso’s use of everyday materials.

Curated by Cécile Godefroy of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and Johan Popelard of the museum.

### *André Malraux et Pablo Picasso : le musée imaginaire*

Two-person exhibition · Oct 6, 2026 – Feb 7, 2027 · on view · Salle-dossier

André Malraux and Pablo Picasso

A dossier show on André Malraux’s relationship to Picasso and his work, drawn from Malraux’s book La Tête d’obsidienne.

After Picasso’s death in 1973, his widow Jacqueline Roque asked Malraux to help with the estate. A visit to Notre-Dame-de-Vie, the painter’s last home and studio, showed him Picasso’s personal collection and a part of his imaginary museum.

The visit led to La Tête d’obsidienne, a fictionalized book of memories and conversations. It reveals less about a real friendship, which Picasso hardly ever mentioned, than about how Malraux refined his own theories through Picasso’s work.

### Pablo Picasso: *Pablo Picasso au prisme de « Cahiers d'art »*

Oct 6, 2026 – Jan 3, 2027 · on view · Salle-dossier

- Fri, Oct 23, 2026: Conversation with Cécile Debray, Johan Popelard and Staffan Ahrenberg, 11 am–12:30 pm, followed by a book signing of Cahiers d’Art: 100 years of modernism

More than thirty works by Picasso and others, most of them reproduced in the pages of the journal Cahiers d’Art.

Marking the centenary of Cahiers d’Art, founded in 1926 by Christian Zervos, this small dossier show recalls the journal’s visual world and its close ties to Picasso, to whom it devoted dozens of articles until the late 1950s.

Picasso’s works are set beside drawings and paintings by other artists, from the Douanier Rousseau to Miró, Dalí and Max Ernst, tracing the journal’s Cubist lineage of Surrealism and its Surrealist rereading of Cubism.
