### Chris Lovasoa Kauffmann: *Mammoth Steps*

Nov 7 – Dec 24, 2026 · coming up

- Sat, Nov 7, 2026: Opening reception with a performance by Tran Uy Duc and Lovasoa, 4–9 pm

Paintings collaged with self-portraits and stills from the artist’s old YouTube videos, plus a multichannel video set in a Pompeii-style escape room.

Kauffmann glues self-portraits, digital montages and clips from his amateur YouTube videos onto his paintings, letting these modest images stand in for a single artistic identity. The centerpiece, Time and Place: A Day in Pompeii (2025), is a multichannel video staged inside an escape room modeled on Pompeii.

Before studying painting, Kauffmann was a self-taught YouTuber, and that early experience of self-presentation and image sampling still runs through his work, which looks at how images circulate, get monetized and shape social identities. Born in Geneva in 1999, he trained at HEAD Geneva and ENSBA Paris and has shown at MAMCO and Kunsthalle Winterthur; this show is produced with Halle Nord, Geneva.
