Unique terracotta sculptures: heads recalling Etruscan and Roman portraits, a Medusa shield and two votive stelae.
Theimer, a Czech-born French sculptor, models a series of terracotta heads that echo Etruscan and Roman portraiture. Each wears an elaborate headdress carrying his recurring symbols: stacked turtles, olive crowns, vines and grapes, fish, dolphins and tiny faces.
Larger works accompany them: a shield with a Medusa head, in which the Gorgon becomes ornament, and two stelae conceived as small votive altars, covered in faces, cypresses, shrubs and animals. A catalogue with a critical text by Massimo Bertozzi is planned for the show.
