### Roy Lichtenstein: *Like New*

Oct 11, 2026 – May 10, 2027 · on view, just opened · Floor 3

A retrospective of Roy Lichtenstein’s paintings, drawings, sculpture, film and prints, including four re-created murals.

Titled after a 1962 work, the show is the first New York retrospective of Lichtenstein since 1993. It follows his interest in perception across six decades, setting well-known comic-derived Pop paintings beside lesser-known pieces and four re-created murals.

It argues that his work anticipated a digital culture in which images are copied, altered and reposted, returning each time made like new. It is organized by Meg Onli and guest curator Alex Da Corte.

### Dyani White Hawk: *Nourish*

Dates not published · on view · Floor 8

A site-specific mosaic of thousands of handmade ceramic tiles in the museum’s Studio Bar, drawing on Lakota abstraction.

White Hawk built this installation from thousands of handmade ceramic tiles, using colors rooted in Lakota beadwork and quillwork traditions. Subtle shifts in hue echo gradients found in nature and set an emotional tone for a space of rest and reflection.

The work draws on Lakota abstraction while placing Native art in dialogue with American Modernists such as Marsden Hartley and Jackson Pollock, who cited Native art as an influence.

### Roy Lichtenstein: *1997*

Through Jun 1, 2027 · on view · Floor 3

- Wed, Oct 28, 2026: Halloween Member Night: Pop Party, 7–9:30 pm

Sketches, studies and posthumously completed works from Lichtenstein’s final year, including mural and sculpture projects and prints.

In 1997 Lichtenstein was working on two murals, several large sculptures and a new print series, while widening his palette with mint green, turquoise, coral and cyan. He also began making images without his black outlines, echoing early digital aesthetics, and kept quoting his own motifs and artists such as Leonardo and Matisse.

He died that September, leaving projects unfinished; some were completed after his death and others survive only as sketches. The show gathers related materials, many from the Whitney’s collection, and accompanies Like New on the fifth floor.

### Charles Burchfield: *Elemental*

From Oct 22, 2026 · coming up

Ten watercolors from 1916 to 1960 by Charles Burchfield, all from the Whitney’s collection, on nature, weather and the seasons.

Burchfield’s visionary watercolors turn close observation of meadows, storms and changing seasons into emotional, almost spiritual scenes. The ten works, all from the Whitney’s holdings, include Cricket Chorus in the Arbor (1917), Cold September Rain (1957) and An April Mood (1946–55).

The show marks seventy years since the museum organized his 1956 retrospective. The works are light-sensitive and rarely shown together. It continues a series of collection presentations that has included Wanda Gág, Claes Oldenburg and Andy Warhol.

More than 100 net art works commissioned for the Whitney’s artport website since 2001, shown online and in the galleries.

Marking artport’s 25th anniversary, the show traces a quarter century of net art through works the Whitney commissioned for its online gallery. It is organized by the site’s three commissioning strands: Gate Pages (2001–2006), main Commissions, and the Sunrise/Sunset series (2009–2024) with its successor, On the Hour. The open gallery plan evokes floating browser windows.

The artists work in code, data visualization, gaming environments and AI, exploring privacy, identity and surveillance. The duo Operator premieres Human Unreadable Act III, a live performance in the Hess Family Theater on November 19, 21 and 22.
