### Isamu Noguchi: *Isamu Noguchi at Lever House*

Sep 14, 2026 – Aug 31, 2027 · on view

Models, drawings and sculptures tied to Noguchi’s unrealized 1952 courtyard and lobby scheme for Lever House, shown at the building itself.

Noguchi worked with architect Gordon Bunshaft on two proposals for the Lever House courtyard, inspired by Kyoto sand gardens: a marble plane with a reflecting pool and three granite forms, then a richer landscape of water, planting and voids. Neither was built. His model sits in one of the lobby’s original vitrines, with related architectural drawings.

Realized works show how the ideas carried on, including Bird B, Noh Musicians, Mountains Forming, Octetra and Play Sculpture. Akari light sculptures light the Park Avenue corner of the lobby for the lamp’s 75th anniversary. The show is at Lever House, not the museum.

### *Noguchi to Asawa: Designing Postwar America*

Group exhibition · Sep 20, 2026 – Jan 10, 2027 · on view

Isamu Noguchi, Ruth Asawa, George Nakashima and others

Sculpture, furniture, graphic design and fiber art by six Japanese American and Japanese-influenced artists of the postwar era.

The show brings together Isamu Noguchi, George Nakashima, Leo Amino, S. Neil Fujita, Kay Sekimachi and Ruth Asawa, the first exhibition to unite all six. It looks at how each helped shape modern American art and design.

It also considers the experiences behind their work, including the effect of Japanese and Japanese American incarceration during World War II. The show is held offsite at the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia.

### Isamu Noguchi: *“I am not a designer”*

Sep 19, 2026 – Jan 3, 2027 · on view

A retrospective of Noguchi’s design work across architecture, furniture, lighting, ceramics, stage sets and landscape.

Organized by the High Museum of Art, the show is the first design retrospective of Noguchi’s work in nearly twenty-five years. Its title quotes his 1949 declaration, even as he kept working in industrial design, architecture, ceramics, furniture, lighting, stage sets and landscape design.

It presents him as an interdisciplinary, multinational artist. This presentation is at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts, not at The Noguchi Museum; the show then travels to the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester in 2027.

### *Noguchi Museum × Ikenobo: 40 Years in New York — A Living Tradition of Flowers and Space*

Group exhibition · Oct 17 – 18, 2026 · coming up · Education Studio (Level C)

Ikenobo Ikebana Society New York City Chapter masters and members

About 45 ikebana arrangements by masters and members of the Ikenobo Ikebana Society’s New York chapter, shown in a two-day exhibition.

The show marks forty years of the Ikenobo Ikebana Society’s New York City Chapter. Ikenobo, founded in Kyoto more than 550 years ago, is the oldest school of ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement based on close observation of nature.

Arrangements are presented as sculptural forms, set beside the ideas in Isamu Noguchi’s work: balance and tension, movement and stillness, and the way form and emptiness give each other meaning. It is free with museum admission.

### Isamu Noguchi: *No Ordinary Light: Akari at 75*

Nov 4, 2026 – Sep 5, 2027 · coming up

Isamu Noguchi’s Akari paper-and-bamboo light sculptures, shown with his stone, metal and clay works in settings drawn from historic displays.

Marking seventy-five years since Noguchi made the first Akari on a 1951 visit to Gifu, the show follows how he presented these lights over his career, from domestic interiors to monumental installations, set beside his sculptures in stone, metal and clay.

Displays draw on key historical presentations, including the Akari’s debut at a tea ceremony at the Eames House in 1951 and Noguchi’s 1986 solo presentation at the Venice Biennale.
