### Saya Woolfalk: *The WoodsWoman Method*

Oct 9, 2026 – Mar 28, 2027 · on view, just opened

Saya Woolfalk selects works from the museum’s permanent collection and shows process materials from her WoodsWoman project.

Woolfalk, who went through the museum’s AIM Fellowship in 2009, applies the ideas of her WoodsWoman project to the Bronx Museum’s collection. She chose artworks about speculative worlds, the cosmos, human relationships with nature and communal storytelling, and shows them with her own process materials.

The first chapter of a multi-year initiative, it also serves as a laboratory for her commissioned installation in the museum’s renovated main lobby, and she will lead workshops with the education department.

### *Beyond the Margins: Bronx Museum Teens Activate the Permanent Collection*

Group exhibition · Oct 9, 2026 – Jan 3, 2027 · on view, just opened

Bronx Museum teens

Eleven artists’ prints, photographs, paintings and assemblages from the museum’s collection, chosen by fourteen high school students.

Fourteen New York City high school students in the Teen Summer 2026 program curated this show from the Bronx Museum’s permanent collection. They chose eleven artists working in printmaking, photography, painting and assemblage, guided by questions about how artists defy convention, experiment with materials and use their work as resistance.

The exhibition treats defiance as a sustained practice of surpassing limits rather than a single act of rebellion. It includes Jamel Shabazz’s 1980 photograph Rush Hour, Brooklyn, New York.

Khuumba Ama, Michael F. Anaya, Christel Brellochs and other Lifelong Studio participants

Acrylic paintings by adults over 55 that blur the line between figuration and abstraction.

Fourteen participants in the museum’s Lifelong Studio program, which offers free sequential artmaking workshops to adults aged 55 and over, show original acrylic paintings that sit between recognizable form and abstraction. Their subjects include the body, kinship, nature, movement, emotion and the subconscious.

Lifelong Studio was created in 2023 with funding from E.A. Michelson Philanthropy. The show was prepared with museum educators Madison Green and Jinette Jimenez.
