## Exhibitions

### Arthur Jafa: *I Am Tony*

Sep 25, 2026 – Jan 4, 2027 · on view · Third and Fourth Floors

- Thu, Dec 3, 2026: Arthur Jafa in conversation with Tyler Cowen, 6:30–8 pm
- Fri, Dec 4, 2026: Screening of Daughters of the Dust and talk with Bradford Young, at Metrograph, 7 Ludlow Street

The largest museum survey yet of Arthur Jafa, nearly forty years of films, installations, photographs, paintings and sculpture across two floors.

The survey runs from early work such as Monster (1988), a self-portrait filmed in a mirror, to new pieces shown for the first time. Recent paintings, large video and film installations, sculpture and photographs join his best-known films, The White Album (2019), which won a Golden Lion, and Love is the Message, The Message is Death (2016).

The title honors the jazz drummer Tony Williams. Massimiliano Gioni and Gary Carrion-Murayari are the curators.

### Diego Marcon: *Arrivederci, Piggies!*

Sep 25, 2026 – Jan 31, 2027 · on view · Second Floor

Four films and animations by Diego Marcon, including the newly commissioned Krapfen, in his first New York museum solo show.

All four films play at once as a single installation that surrounds the viewer. The newest, Krapfen (2025), mixes choreography with green-screen CGI to follow a child whose family appears as floating articles of clothing, while its title, the word for an Austrian jam doughnut, is sung over and over in a bright but sinister tune.

Marcon borrows from horror films, slapstick and cartoons, and from fables crowded with families and children. The curators are Massimiliano Gioni and Madeline Weisburg.

Artists who lived or worked on the Bowery, from the Abstract Expressionists to the punks, are represented by Lynda Benglis, Nan Goldin, Eva Hesse, Keith Haring and Cy Twombly, among others. The curator is Lisa Phillips, the museum’s director emerita.

### Ho Tzu Nyen: *Hyundai Translocal Series*

Sep 25, 2026 – Jan 25, 2027 · on view · South Elevators

A new video work for the museum’s elevators, in which digitally rendered Singaporean children pose riddles about power.

P for Power: Up Down (2026) plays on screens in the museum’s glass-fronted elevators, which look onto the Bowery. Pressing a button summons a life-size, digitally rendered Singaporean child who delivers a short riddle, mantra, question or note on the nature of power.

Its companion, P for Power: Double Life of P, follows in October 2026 at the Ulsan Art Museum in South Korea; both belong to the Hyundai Translocal Series, a partnership with Hyundai Motor Company.

### Umi Ishihara: *Screens Series*

Sep 24, 2026 – Jan 31, 2027 · on view · Lower Level

A program of three recent narrative films by Umi Ishihara, in her US institutional debut.

The program brings together Gravity and Radiance (2021), Thundergod (2024) and Nocturnal Melody (2026), her newest film, commissioned by Gasworks, London. Ishihara blends fiction and documentary, often working with non-professional actors and local residents, to explore precarity, desire and belonging.

Her approach draws on an upbringing in Japan’s underground nightlife and free-rave culture. Nocturnal Melody will also screen in the museum theater on select weekends, dates to be announced.

From May 12, 2026 · on view · Plaza

A new outdoor sculpture by Sarah Lucas for the museum’s Bowery plaza, a tribute to women taking their place in public life.

VENUS VICTORIA is the first commission for the museum’s new public plaza at Bowery and Prince Street, part of the OMA-designed expansion. Lucas was chosen by a jury of fellow artists and is the first of five recipients over ten years.

The sculpture stays on view for two years. It follows her 2018 New Museum solo show Au Naturel, and continues her use of everyday objects and the body as subject.

### Tschabalala Self: *Art Lovers*

From Mar 21, 2026 · on view · Facade

A new work for the museum’s facade showing a couple embracing, echoing the point where its two buildings meet.

Made for the museum’s Facade Sculpture Program, Self’s work pictures two lovers in an embrace, echoing the “kiss point” where the SANAA-designed building meets the new OMA-designed wing. It can be seen from the Bowery and from Prince Street.

The work treats the museum and its public surroundings as settings for personal connection, a portrait of contemporary city life. It is curated by Massimiliano Gioni and Madeline Weisburg.

### Klára Hosnedlová: *Shelter*

From Mar 21, 2026 · on view · Atrium Stair

A site-specific sculpture of sandstone and glass, wrapped in a flax-textile pelt and embroidered, on the museum’s Atrium Stair.

For the new Atrium Stair, Hosnedlová made a sandstone-and-glass sculpture encircled by a pelt-like form of flax-based textile and finished with her intricate embroidery, taking cues from Eastern Bloc buildings and old craft techniques. It can be seen from the stair and its landings, from the Lobby up to the Fourth Floor.

Touching on labor, gender and historical memory, it is her first museum project in the United States, made with support from the Danish textile company Kvadrat.

### *Sixth New Museum Triennial: The Outside Expands*

Group exhibition · Feb 5 – May 16, 2027 · coming up

Jean Barth, Jota Mombaça, Sin Wai Kin, Rene Matić and others

The sixth Triennial gathers thirty-five early-career artists and collectives from around the world around themes of refusal and kinship.

Co-curated by Vivian Crockett and Isabella Rjeille of MASP in São Paulo, the Triennial takes its title from a 1979 action by the Brazilian collective 3NÓS3, who marked São Paulo gallery entrances with duct-taped X’s during the dictatorship. The ‘x’ here stands for both refusal and a crossroad.

The artists work against fixed notions of territory, identity, gender and sexuality, and build alternative kinships and collaborations. It is the only recurring New York exhibition devoted to early-career artists internationally.
