## Exhibitions

### *Three Material Views*

Sep 18, 2026 – Jan 16, 2027 · on view · first floor

Eric Aho, Stanley Lewis, Ying Li, Curated by John Yau

Landscape and place paintings and drawings by three contemporary artists, shown in dialogue with Albert Pinkham Ryder.

Curated by John Yau, the show pairs Eric Aho, Stanley Lewis and Ying Li, who each attend closely to the physical matter of paint while evoking other places and moods. Aho contributes oil paintings from his Fireflies series; Lewis, oil, acrylic and ink works on paper of buildings and streets worn by time; Li, swirling oil and mixed-media pictures built from overlapping strokes.

Nineteenth-century landscapist Albert Pinkham Ryder serves as a reference point. A catalogue with Yau’s essay is available.

### Milton Resnick: *Painter in the Age of Painting*

Sep 18, 2026 – Jan 16, 2027 · on view

Paintings and works on paper by Milton Resnick from 1946 to 2003, shown alongside a new biography of the painter.

The show takes its title from Geoffrey Dorfman’s newly published, richly illustrated biography of Resnick, which follows him from his birth in Bratslav, Ukraine, in 1917 through the Second World War, Paris and eight decades in New York.

Oils, acrylics, gouaches and inks on canvas, board and paper, from early works of 1946 to late pieces of 2003, trace his career as an abstract expressionist. The book is on sale at the gallery.

### Milton Resnick: *Earth, Elephant, and New Bride*

Sep 18, 2026 – Jul 17, 2027 · on view · second floor

Three large mid-career oil paintings by Resnick, shown together for the first time: New Bride, Earth and Elephant.

The show pairs New Bride (1963), lent by the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Earth (1976), lent by MoMA, and Elephant (1979), from the Foundation’s collection. Though Resnick was an abstractionist, not a landscape painter, each canvas works as a self-contained world with an even, steady surface.

New Bride, painted a few blocks away on Spruce Street, marks his turn to “no strokes anymore, just paint”; it looks white but was originally blue and built up in layers. Earth and Elephant use a darker palette. A catalogue with an essay by Geoffrey Dorfman is on sale.
