### *PROPS from Barakei*

Two-person exhibition · Nov 6, 2026 – Mar 14, 2027 · coming up

Eikoh Hosoe and Jason Wee

A new sculptural installation and performance by Jason Wee, answering Eikoh Hosoe’s 1961–62 photographs of Yukio Mishima.

Commissioned by the museum, Wee’s installation focuses on the props in Hosoe’s Barakei (Ordeal by Roses) series: a hose, a mallet, a candle, a painted backdrop. Metal and fabric prints of similar objects are mounted in a spiral of rope, its pattern encoded from a lecture script by Wee that can be heard on headphones.

Many of Hosoe’s photographs come from the museum’s collection, and the show also follows them through the three editions of the 1963 photobook, designed by Kohei Sugiura, Tadanori Yokoo and Kiyoshi Awazu. Curated by Yasufumi Nakamori.
