## Exhibitions

### Karolina Maszkiewicz: *Tending the Wild*

Sep 9 – Oct 24, 2026 · on view

New ceramic sculptures and kinetic mobiles made with seed pods and other plant matter, some of it metal-plated.

Maszkiewicz’s mobiles start with gathering plant material from landscapes in Hawaii and California. Some seed pods are kept natural and others metal-plated, then hung in balanced compositions that move with air and light.

The new ceramic sculptures rebuild organic forms in clay, as branching and coiling structures. Together the works make an imagined garden of stems, roots, vessels and geometric frames, treating cultivation as care rather than control. The show is part of the gallery’s JLG Projects series.

### Howard Smith: *Tomorrow isn't Yesterday*

Sep 9 – Oct 24, 2026 · on view

New and historical paintings by Howard Smith tracing five decades of freehand brushwork and the balance of painted and bare canvas.

Spanning five decades, the show traces Howard Smith’s study of the single freehand brushstroke and the balance between painted and bare canvas, from the reduced Red Shape (1966) to the dense, light-filled marks of Orange over Green (1981).

His quasi-grid paintings loosen a hand-drawn grid into color and gesture, part of an ongoing series, while the circular Black Circle (2000) turns the canvas itself into part of the composition. A new monograph on Smith accompanies the show.

### Elodie Blanchard: *In Fragments*

Oct 30 – Dec 17, 2026 · coming up

Textile sculptures and wall works made from collected fabric, clothing and Mylar balloons, in three series.

Blanchard, a former textile designer, layers, sews and assembles collected fabrics, clothing and remnants into new forms. The show brings together three ongoing series: Trees, figure-like sculptures each named after someone in her life; Mending Joy, wall-spanning fabric collages that suggest landscapes; and Vessels, rounded forms made from clothing and Mylar balloons.

Together they move between forms that grow, sprawl and contain.

### Rachael Catharine Anderson: *Hidden Peril*

Oct 30 – Dec 17, 2026 · coming up · JLG Projects

New paintings of poisonous plants and mushrooms, made from direct observation on marble-dust grounds.

Anderson forages for, researches and studies poisonous plants and mushrooms, either in their habitats or in the studio. Over several painting sessions she records small shifts in each plant’s form rather than aiming for scientific accuracy.

She prepares her surfaces with marble dust, setting the stone’s permanence against the fleeting subjects. The paintings draw on the history of botanical imagery, from still life to memento mori, and on the plant as a source of beauty, poison and knowledge.
