## Exhibitions

### Volker Hüller: *Angelus Novus*

Sep 9 – Oct 31, 2026 · on view

New figurative paintings, from large canvases to small works in silk and oil, set among toppled statues and Roman columns.

Hüller’s third solo show at the New York gallery is his first devoted entirely to figuration. Large oil canvases hang with small paintings in silk and oil that share recurring motifs: a toppled stone torso watched by onlookers, a merman washed up on a beach, pilgrims sprawled before an altar, often among Roman columns and arches.

The title comes from Paul Klee’s painting, read through Walter Benjamin’s “angel of history.” Hüller was born in Forchheim, Germany, in 1976 and lives in Brooklyn.

### Matthias Franz: *die dünne Haut der Zivilisation*

Sep 9 – Oct 31, 2026 · on view

Oil paintings of surreal historical scenes—cloaked figures adrift at sea, children before an empty bandstand—questioning Enlightenment ideals.

Franz, who studied under Daniel Richter in Vienna, paints uncanny scenes drawn from literature and history: cloaked figures adrift on a yellow sea beneath a saluting Napoleonic officer, and children gazing up at an empty bandstand crowded with unplayed instruments.

Battered typewriters stamped with Hamlet’s name play on feigned madness and the distortions of translation, while the retro Ecstasy paintings nod to Norbert Schwontkowski, rehanging portraits of power on fragile scaffolding.

### Arturo Kameya: *Clavo torcido no teme martillo / A bent nail fears no hammer*

Nov 6, 2026 – Jan 9, 2027 · coming up

New paintings drawing on childhood memories and popular myths from 1990s suburban Lima.

Kameya builds his paintings from childhood memories of 1990s Lima, family traditions and popular culture, rendering them in soft, muted pastels and grayish tones that feel at once familiar and strange, like mementos of a vanished era.

His wider practice spans acrylic, plaster, film and printmaking, often combined into large installations tracing hidden links between disparate historical moments. The show follows his 2024 Wolvecampprijs win and a recent group presentation at the Carnegie International in Pittsburgh.

### Gareth Cadwallader: *Goodnight Moon*

Nov 6, 2026 – Jan 9, 2027 · coming up

Nine small watercolors on fatherhood, birth and death, moving between a son’s and a father’s identity.

Cadwallader shows nine small watercolors in a long, narrow format recalling Japanese handscrolls, moving from death to birth: a dying man borne up in a cloud of scattered ashes, a pregnant body lying in winter earth like a fossil, a baby at the breast in a nest under a stippled night sky.

In the central painting, named after Margaret Wise Brown’s 1947 bedtime book, an exhausted father lies stretched on the floor beside a cot; in another, tiny hands crowd over him as he sleeps.
