Wu’s lanterns, bamboo and willow frames skinned in mulberry paper, include two half-open doors, the goddesses Kuan-yin and Princess Bari, an airplane, a horse and a train. Each strobes through one section of the song in the order of its lyrics, ending at a replica 16mm projector looping a rice-paper “film.” A small schoolhouse modeled on a 1913 photograph of a girls’ high school in Shizuoka, Japan, sits among them. It is Wu’s third solo show with the gallery.
