Alexander JamesDissecting The Square. Continuum
New paintings built around the square, divided into quadrants, with a documentary film on the artist’s process and time in Hong Kong.
James’s series began when morning sunlight split an empty canvas in his studio. He often divides compositions into four quadrants, setting expressive mark-making between abstraction and figuration, with fragmented faces and bodily forms drawn from personal archives and everyday observation.
A documentary made with Robin Blake and edited by Oliver Michael Baron accompanies the paintings. The selling exhibition follows his presentation at Phillips Hong Kong earlier this year.
