Murphy’s work looks at how history, place and the body are recorded and stored, and at the technologies of power in that process, often beginning from an object, a law or a space. For Peer she is making a new body of work on the Nightingale Courts, the temporary legal spaces the British government has used. Peer becomes a forum of potential judgement, sentencing and performance. It is the London-based artist’s first solo exhibition in a UK public art organisation.
