## Exhibitions

### Gerhard Marx: *Landscape would be the wrong word*

Oct 14 – Nov 7, 2026 · on view, just opened

Cartographic reconstructions and drawings made entirely from embedded plant material, blending maps, botany and architecture.

Marx fragments and reassembles maps to question the authority they project and to open new ways of imagining the territories they describe. His plant drawings embed and graft plant fragments, recalling the herbarium, into dense, tactile surfaces drawn from within the landscape rather than at a distance from it.

The show looks at sketches, models, floor plans and garden layouts as ways of remaking the world by describing it differently. It is his first exhibition with Everard Read London.

### *DIRECTOR'S SELECTION | October 2026*

Group exhibition · Oct 13 – Nov 7, 2026 · on view, just opened

Shany van den Berg, Aron Demetz, William Peers, Cathy Abraham and others

Paintings, ceramics and sculpture by largely South African artists, on contradiction, spirituality and the natural world.

The monthly selection brings together figurative and abstract work that sets opposites side by side, often with humour. Shany van den Berg paints lush florals in curving vases, Aron Demetz addresses our bond with and distance from nature, and William Peers loops solid stone into sinuous forms.

Others include Cathy Abraham, Guy Ferrer, Deborah Bell, Alessandro Papetti, Thonton Kabeya, Luca Evans, Norman Catherine, Lucinda Muge, Ricky Burnett, Maja Marx and John Murray.

### Caryn Scrimgeour: *A Certain Slant of Light*

Nov 12 – Dec 12, 2026 · coming up

New still-life paintings of laid tables, porcelain, butterflies, birds and small keepsakes, in the manner of Dutch vanitas.

Scrimgeour paints immaculate table settings in which precious keepsakes sit beside everyday objects: embroidered cloths, porcelain, pinned wings, torn paper, tangled thread. Low, oblique light picks out each one, and the only human trace is her faint reflection in a spoon or fish knife.

The works draw on Dutch Golden Age still life and on classical Chinese and Japanese poetry, using ephemeral things such as petals, butterflies and a fig to reflect on transience and on what we hold onto.

### Emalie Bingham: *Devotion Myths\**

Nov 12 – Dec 12, 2026 · coming up

New abstract paintings built from a personal alphabet of repeated, collaged and re-drawn marks.

Bingham, a South African artist now based in Bristol, collects and deconstructs marks, including drawn objects that matter to her, collage offcuts and stray brushstrokes, and recombines them as repeating symbols. Each mark is open to interpretation, so the canvases ask to be read imaginatively.

The designs raise questions of framing, visibility, belonging and perception. It is her first solo exhibition with the gallery, which included her in a 2020 group show.
