Tomory DodgeZig Zag
Oct 21 – Nov 4, 2026 Glassell Park
New oil-on-canvas paintings built from patterns of stripes, dots and zig-zags that are layered, scraped back and reworked.
Dodge begins each painting by laying down thick, colorful patterns, then scrapes them back so the underpainting survives only as traces. New patterns, color blocks and brushstrokes follow, some kept and some scraped into the surface. He describes the process as a system whose small deviations and “mistakes” accumulate over time.
The paintings move between deep and shallow space and between vertical and horizontal motion. Dodge, born in Denver in 1974, lives and works in Los Angeles.
