### Alexander Apóstol: *Regime: Dramatis Personae*

Sep 20, 2026 – Jan 3, 2027 · on view

Black-and-white portraits of nameless political types from Apóstol’s 2017 series, photographed in Caracas with LGBTQ+ activists as sitters.

Each portrait is labeled not with a name but with a role in Venezuelan political life: the dictator, the masked police officer, the ideological tourist, the one from Hollywood. Apóstol made the 90-photograph series in Caracas in 2017, during a period of violent government repression, and chooses a selection for each place it is shown.

The Venezuelan artist, born in 1969, lives in Madrid. Organized by senior curator José Luis Blondet.

### Cecilia Vicuña: *The Dream of Water: Quipu of Encounters Maricunga*

Nov 15, 2026 – Jun 6, 2027 · coming up

A new collective work by the Chilean artist, linking communities in Chile and Los Angeles around their water crises.

Commissioned through the first Eric and Wendy Schmidt Environment and Art Prize, the project continues the quipus of encounters, collective actions Vicuña has staged since the 1960s; quipu is the Quechua word for knot. Local artists, young people, scientists and Indigenous water defenders in both places take part, and it ends in a ritual quipu assembly led by Vicuña in Los Angeles. Organized by José Luis Blondet.

### Julian Charrière: *Deep End*

Nov 15, 2026 – Jun 6, 2027 · coming up

A new commission and recent immersive work on the fragility and resilience of the planet’s water systems.

Charrière debuts a new commission alongside recent pieces, among them Midnight Zone, a 4K video with a 3D ambisonic soundscape. The immersive environments consider humanity’s changing relationship with the planet, climate change and environmental damage, and nature’s raw beauty.

It is the first exhibition for MOCA’s Eric and Wendy Schmidt Environment and Art Prize, and Charrière’s first museum presentation in Los Angeles. A catalogue accompanies it.
