## Exhibitions

### Randy Wray: *Hothouse*

Sep 19 – Oct 24, 2026 · on view

New abstract paintings by Randy Wray, made over two years in a studio he calls “a kind of hothouse where I’m growing paintings”: earthy, green-toned forms with a sharp, lustrous finish.

Wray works on a painting over long stretches, leaving it and coming back, and carries forms from one canvas into the next: a cluster of fine lines in Flower turns up again, changed, in Organ, and began in a 2019–21 painting, Root. He calls these recurring elements “transmissions.” His surfaces are thick and built up, burnished in places and scarred in others.

Some of the new paintings set hard geometry, a band along the bottom edge or a right angle like a windowsill, against his usual soft, organic shapes; in others one large monochrome form, raised like a wax seal or a shell, fills the front of the picture. They hover between abstraction and things half-recognized: bones, organs, flowers, landscapes seen from above.

### *Felipe Suzuki*

Solo exhibition · Sep 19 – Oct 24, 2026 · on view

The São Paulo painter Felipe Suzuki’s first solo show with Karma: five quiet, luminous oil paintings from 2026 that begin as still lifes and are painted from memory rather than from life.

Suzuki arranges objects as a still-life painter would, then paints the sensation of having looked at them. He works mostly with a four-pigment palette named after the ancient Greek painter Apelles, building his surfaces slowly in layers of oil, sometimes mixed with calcium carbonate, on canvases mounted on wood to carry their weight.

His shapes are simple: a pale semicircle rising like a moon, pleated strips that recall the folding screens in his Japanese family’s homes, slim upright bars that bring Minimalist sculpture to mind. The gaps between them count as much as the forms, in the spirit of the Japanese idea of ma; one painting shows a small seascape hanging in a white room.
