## Exhibitions

### Carl Cheng: *Nature Never Loses*

Sep 26, 2026 – Feb 28, 2027 · on view

The first in-depth survey of Carl Cheng’s six-decade career making art about technology and the environment, with about 50 rarely shown works.

About 50 rarely exhibited works and archival material follow Cheng from the 1960s, when he began working amid political unrest and the aerospace boom, through process-based pieces such as Erosion Machine No. 4 and Early Warning System that join the natural and the man-made. ICA LA has also commissioned a new work using water.

Cheng was born in San Francisco in 1942 and lives in Santa Monica. The survey was organized by The Contemporary Austin and curated by Alex Klein; ICA LA is its last stop.

### Amia Yokoyama: *Our Strange Hollows*

Sep 26, 2026 – Feb 28, 2027 · on view · Project Room

Amia Yokoyama’s first institutional solo show: new work in ceramic, bronze, glass and holography that draws on myths of the underworld.

Yokoyama, born in Illinois and based in Los Angeles, trained in experimental animation at CalArts and moves between ceramic sculpture, animation, holography, painting and installation. She is drawn to materials that change state, such as clay passed through fire and water, as a way to think about bodies that break down and mend. Amanda Sroka organized the show.

### *AoA x Hwa Records: Grounding Bodies, Casting Dreams*

Group exhibition · Sep 26 – Nov 1, 2026 · on view

A show by ICA LA’s high school Youth Fellows and the Korean diasporic collective Hwa Records, built around a stone tower of donated rocks.

Over the summer the fourteen Agency of Assets fellows, high school students from Downtown and East Los Angeles, made the show in workshops with Saewon Oh and C. Ryu of Hwa Records, the museum’s artists in residence. At its center is a Dol Top, a Korean folk stone tower meant to protect a village, stacked from rocks brought from home by the fellows, their communities and the public; a zine, a sound piece and a video complete it.

### Zoe Walsh: *Gathering*

Sep 26, 2026 – Feb 28, 2027 · on view · 7th Street facade

A commissioned mural by the Los Angeles painter Zoe Walsh on the museum’s 7th Street facade, turning to the city’s ecologies.

Walsh, born in Washington, D.C., in 1989, paints dreamlike scenes of silhouetted bodies in gardens, parks and cityscapes as places of queer intimacy, building them from digital models, hand-made stencils and screen printing. Their montages combine images from queer archives and topographic maps with photographs of friends staged in the artist’s garden. Emilia Shaffer-Del Valle organized the project.
