### Huguette Caland: *A Life in a Few Lines*

Sep 27, 2026 – Feb 28, 2027 · on view

A retrospective of Huguette Caland, the Lebanese-born artist who spent her last decades in Venice, California, in about 150 works.

About 150 drawings, paintings, sculptures and textiles, among them thread-on-fabric dresses shown on painted wooden mannequins, are joined by archival material and ephemera. The work is sensual and often funny, taking up language, gender, aging and the body.

Caland (1931–2019) worked in Venice, California, for her last decades, and her place in the Hammer’s Made in L.A. 2016 brought her a wider audience. The show comes from the Museo Reina Sofía, Madrid, and is curated by Hannah Feldman.

### *Hammer Projects: Gê Viana*

Solo exhibition · Sep 19, 2026 – Feb 7, 2027 · on view

The Brazilian artist Gê Viana’s first US institutional show: an installation, a new sculpture and a film shot in rural Maranhão.

Viana works across collage, sound, video and installation, mixing analog and digital collage with painting and early twentieth-century photographic processes to fill the gaps official archives leave in Afro-Brazilian history. At the center is her 13-minute film Radiola de promessa (2025), which follows daily life deep in the countryside of Maranhão, in northeast Brazil, and the reggae that carries the region’s memory. Erin Christovale curates.

### *Hammer Projects: Vibeke Mascini*

Solo exhibition · Sep 12, 2026 – Jan 17, 2027 · on view

Two new commissions by Vibeke Mascini, who works with electricity: a copper-cast ceiba tree wired to a streetlight, and three glowing moth pupae.

Mascini, born in The Hague in 1989, treats electrical energy as her material. In Zombie, a young ceiba tree cast in copper salvaged from stripped wire in Mexico City has roots electroformed onto a cable that powers a violet LED streetlight. Facing it, the three resin sculptures of Amber Highway, like hanging moth pupae, glow amber off their own car batteries; together they form a circuit about public lighting in Los Angeles. Pablo José Ramírez curates.

### Mavis Pusey: *Mobile Images*

Oct 11, 2026 – Feb 28, 2027 · on view, just opened

The first major museum survey of the Jamaican-born abstract painter Mavis Pusey, with more than 60 works from a 50-year career.

Pusey (1928–2019) made geometric abstract paintings, prints and works on paper that draw on fashion, printmaking and the cities she lived in. Her Broken Construction series (1960s–1990s), which treats destruction and renewal as figures for social change, hangs with photographs, personal notes and archival material. The survey was organized by ICA Philadelphia and the Studio Museum in Harlem and curated by Hallie Ringle; Jessi DiTillio oversees the Hammer’s presentation.

### *Hammer Projects: Mike Cloud*

Solo exhibition · Mar 28, 2026 – Jan 10, 2027 · on view · Lobby

Three large portraits collaged from grocery bags, ads and cash by the Chicago artist Mike Cloud, with his collages of children’s clothing.

Cloud, a Chicago painter who often builds work from shaped stretcher bars and thick oil paint, fills the lobby wall with three loosely abstracted portraits, two of them new commissions, assembled from paper grocery bags, magazine ads, cash and other printed matter. Beside them hang pieces from Painted Clothing (2007–8), collages of children’s clothes whose dragons, fairies and rainbows point to marketing aimed at the young. It is his first solo museum show on the West Coast; Erin Christovale curates.
