### Odilon Redon: *Otherworldly Visions*

Jul 14 – Oct 18, 2026 · on view, closing soon · Museum West Pavilion, Plaza Level

Charcoal drawings, lithographs and pastels by the French Symbolist Odilon Redon, drawn mostly from Getty’s own collection.

The show moves between Redon’s dark charcoal drawings and the luminous pastels of his later years, with works such as The Battle of the Bones (about 1881), the lithograph Everywhere Eyeballs Are Aflame (1888) and the pastel portrait Baronne de Domecy (about 1900). It traces his sources in religion, mythology, literature and the science of his time; a pastel Orpheus is lent by the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.

### *Lost. Found. Returned.*

Jun 23 – Oct 18, 2026 · on view, closing soon · Research Institute, Gallery II

- Tue, Oct 13, 2026: Talk on provenance at American museums with Victoria Reed, 6 pm

The story of an Otto Greiner drawing lost from Dresden after World War II, found at the Getty and now going back.

Dresden’s Kupferstich-Kabinett bought Greiner’s 1892 drawing of a standing male nude in 1894 and marked it as lost after the war; it later turned up at the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles. The show follows the drawing’s wartime path, the provenance tools researchers use to trace missing artworks, and its coming return to Dresden.

### Charles Ross: *Spectrum 14*

Sep 10, 2024 – Nov 29, 2026 · on view · Museum Entrance Hall

Charles Ross’s array of calibrated prisms, casting bands of spectral color across the museum’s entrance rotunda.

The bands of light travel through the space with the sun, whose arc shifts slightly every day, so the work changes over the seasons. Commissioned for PST ART in 2024 alongside the exhibition Lumen: The Art and Science of Light, it is the second of the museum’s Rotunda Commissions, installations prompted by Getty’s collection, building and site.

Late medieval paintings and illuminated manuscripts showing Mary, Joseph and the Christ Child as a family at home, around Getty’s new Gerard David.

Around 1500, Northern European artists began to picture the Holy Family as an affectionate trio in a domestic room, with Joseph as a devoted father. Getty’s recently acquired Holy Family by Gerard David (about 1520) hangs with books of hours and panel paintings of the period, among them Quentin Metsys’s Madonna of the Cherries and loaned Virgin and Child panels by Dieric Bouts and Rogier van der Weyden.

Around 1940 Stendahl Art Galleries began promoting pre-Hispanic antiquities to museums and private collectors, staging exhibitions in the US and Europe and placing objects in Hollywood advertising. Drawn from the gallery’s archive at the Getty Research Institute, the show includes photographs such as Man Ray’s picture of the actress Teresa Wright with a Chac Mool, and weighs the damage done to sites in Mexico.
