## Exhibitions

### *Destiny in the Stars: The Beginnings of the Zodiac*

Group exhibition · Mar 21, 2026 – Jan 10, 2027 · on view

Ancient objects from Berlin’s museums trace the zodiac from Babylonia to Egypt, Greece and Rome, about 400 BC to 400 AD.

Some objects are on view for the first time, among them clay tablets, drawings of zodiacs with planetary positions and a replica of the zodiac relief from Nemrut Dağ. Thematic sections follow how the zodiac and the horoscope began in Babylonia, spread across the ancient world, and fed both astrology and early astronomical calculation.

Organized with the Egyptian Museum, the Vorderasiatisches Museum and the ZODIAC research project at Freie Universität Berlin.

### *100 Years of the Dictionary of the Egyptian Language*

Group exhibition · Jun 6 – Dec 31, 2026 · on view · Mythological Hall

Objects from the Egyptian Dictionary archive mark the centenary of the first volume of the dictionary of ancient Egyptian, begun in this museum in 1897.

Adolf Erman and his team copied known Egyptian texts onto index cards, building an archive of more than a million cards from which the dictionary was compiled. After the First World War and inflation, a gift from John D. Rockefeller Jr. in 1924 paid for the printing. Material from the archive follows the path from ancient inscriptions to the finished volumes.

### Michael Müller: *Dioscuri – The Given Day*

Apr 12, 2025 – Mar 14, 2027 · on view · Staircase hall

Michael Müller’s monumental painting of the twins Castor and Polydeuces, shown in the Neues Museum’s staircase hall with antiquities on the myth.

In the myth the twins alternate each day between Olympus and the underworld. Müller’s large work follows them through 24 hours, from daylight down into darkness, and he painted each section only at its matching hour. Papyri, coins and classical antiquities on the Dioscuri accompany it.

The staircase hall once held casts of the Roman horse-tamer twins, destroyed in the Second World War. Curated by Philipp Bollmann.

Group exhibition · Oct 19, 2017 – Sep 22, 2027 · on view

Migration-period gold jewelry and early medieval brooches and belts from the Diergardt collection, on loan from Cologne’s Römisch-Germanisches Museum.

Gold jewelry from the Black Sea region and silver brooches and belts from early medieval graves in France, Italy, Spain and Germany come from the collection of Johannes von Diergardt, shown in Berlin until 1934 and back in the city while the Cologne museum is rebuilt.
