# Gerhard Richter: *100 Works for Berlin* From Apr 1, 2023 · on view A long-term loan of works by Gerhard Richter from his foundation, centered on his four Birkenau paintings of 2014. The four large Birkenau canvases began as charcoal and paint copies of photographs taken at Auschwitz-Birkenau, which Richter then painted over in abstract layers until the images vanished; a four-part mirror hangs opposite. Also shown are Squatters’ House (1989), 4,900 Colors (2007), Strip (2013/2016) and a large group of overpainted photographs. On loan from the Gerhard Richter Art Foundation; curated by Joachim Jäger and Maike Steinkamp.
