Fifteen juried members of GEDOK Berlin, an association promoting women artists, made new work for its 100th anniversary. They look back at the association’s history, study figures such as founder Ida Dehmel, reflect on being a woman artist in a patriarchal society, and propose ways to make women artists more visible. The show extends beyond the gallery: the Kommunale Galerie presents the finished works, while the GEDOK Galerie shows the association’s history alongside how each piece came about. Students in Nasan Tur’s class at HBK Braunschweig and in Leonore Leonardy’s exhibition-practice seminar at HBKsaar each filled a box with objects meaningful to them and mailed it, unlabelled, to the other school. The recipients could alter, dismantle, recombine, discard or build on what they found. The show presents the results of this correspondence in objects. It is the first time the two groups meet, and the first time each sees what became of its things.
