### Ryuichi Sakamoto: *seeing sound, hearing time*

Sep 11, 2026 – Jun 20, 2027 · on view · Rieckhallen

The first major European retrospective of the composer and artist Ryuichi Sakamoto: seven works in five large sound-and-image installations.

Spread over about 1,500 square meters of the Rieckhallen, the show includes IS YOUR TIME (2017), a piano damaged in the 2011 tsunami and played by seismic data from earthquakes worldwide, and installations from his 2017 album async made with Shiro Takatani and Apichatpong Weerasethakul. Two films by Carsten Nicolai use music from Sakamoto’s last album, 12.

Curated by Ingrid Buschmann with Sachiko Namba.

### *CHANEL Commission: Lina Lapelytė. We Make Years Out of Hours*

Solo exhibition · May 1, 2026 – Jan 10, 2027 · on view · Historic Hall

A performance installation in the Historic Hall, where performers and visitors move 400,000 wooden cubes while singers fill the space.

Twelve performers and visitors stack and rebuild the spruce and pine 10-centimeter cubes into piles, walls and hills, to a soundtrack and songs whose words come from 15 poets, among them Khalil Gibran, Etel Adnan and Ocean Vuong. It is the second CHANEL Commission.

Lapelytė, born in Kaunas in 1984, co-created the Golden Lion–winning opera Sun & Sea. The cubes go on to a public artwork in Eisenhüttenstadt in 2027.

### Shilpa Gupta: *What Still Holds*

Mar 27, 2026 – Jan 3, 2027 · on view · Kleihues Halle

Shilpa Gupta’s show centers on TRUTH, a walk-through installation of oversized letters about language, power and control.

Visitors move between the giant letters of TRUTH (2022–25), joined by further works by the Mumbai-based artist, who works across installation, video, sculpture and performance.

The show is set in dialogue with the museum’s Joseph Beuys display in the Kleihues Halle, the fourth in a series pairing a woman artist with Beuys, after Naama Tsabar, Andrea Pichl and Delcy Morelos.
