## Exhibitions

### *Draußen… Im Museum*

Group exhibition · Jul 5 – Oct 25, 2026 · on view

Favorite and rarely shown Brücke landscapes in painting, drawing and woodcut, with three contemporary responses to the collection, building and forest site.

Works from the collection by Kirchner, Heckel, Schmidt-Rottluff, Pechstein, Nolde and others trace the group’s move out of the cities to work in nature in the early 20th century.

Lizza May David paints in dialogue with Kirchner’s Violette Bäume (1914), Alina Schmuch photographs Werner Düttmann’s museum building and the forest around it, and the landscape architects atelier le balto design a wall on which Brücke works are hung like a landscape.

### *Draußen… Unter Kiefern*

Group exhibition · From Jul 5, 2026 · on view · Museum garden and forest

An outdoor art trail through the museum’s wooded grounds, with new site-specific works by seven artists and collectives left open to the weather.

Guerilla Architects, Mirja Busch, Club Real, El Conde de Torrefiel, Andreas Greiner, Jenny Kendler and Michael Meier & Christoph Franz made works about seeing nature, life shared among species and decay, using as few resources as possible. Curated by Aljoscha Begrich and Lisa Marei Schmidt.

The forest path, laid out by atelier le balto, was extended in July 2026 onto the neighboring forestry office’s land; it is left natural and is not step-free.

### *Swedish Modernism*

Group exhibition · Nov 9, 2026 – Feb 28, 2027 · coming up

Sigrid Hjertén, Isaac Grünewald, Nils Dardel and others

Paintings and drawings by Swedish modernists, drawn from Stockholm’s Moderna Museet, in the first large show of the movement in Germany.

The show introduces German audiences to Swedish modernism, once billed as “Swedish Expressionists” at Berlin’s Sturm gallery in 1915. It centers on the groups De Unga, De åtta and the Göteborg Colourists, who, like the Brücke artists, broke with academic tradition, and it traces both their shared aims and their individual paths.

Key works come from the Moderna Museet, Stockholm, as the second part of a collection exchange; the Brücke-Museum’s own holdings were shown in Stockholm in 2024. Sigrid Hjertén, Isaac Grünewald, Nils Dardel and Henri Matisse are among the artists.
